Spying on Thorne was easy
Henry was just doing another job for another well-to-do client. Being a spy came easily to someone with his special abilities. Planting bugs, gathering intel, watching and waiting in the shadows had made him a very rich man. Spying at Thorne Technologies was cake. Until he met Kat. Suddenly, all his special skills were his enemy. Guilt and worry consumed him. He couldn’t let her find out his secrets.
She loved her job, and she was good at it
Kat was winning awards at Thorne. She had gotten herself through college and had a promising career. Being a Vampire made it easy to convince clients to buy and give. With a touch of her hand and a small sip of their energy, humans were putty in her hands. Feeding her hunger was controllable. But she would never be free of the Clan. Or the Clan’s laws.

He followed the directions to park and found the hidden elevator. People seeing his Jonathan Gray alias would see a man in a fancy suit, with blond hair and wicked blue eyes. On exiting the elevator, there was a red neon sign on the wall proclaiming, ‘The Second Circle’. Now this was getting more interesting. It looked like an 1890s brothel or prohibition speakeasy. The large room had an old wooden bar along one side, with red leather-trimmed barstools and a red leather sofa.
A sexy receptionist smiled at him seductively. Henry felt dumbstruck. She must have been five-foot-nine in three-inch stilettos, with legs that seemed to go on forever. Her tight black dress showed off a multitude of curves. Ruby-red lipstick and pale skin contrasted with her long black hair. Her green eyes glinted at him.
Her voice sounded like music to his ears. “You must be Mr. Gray. I’m Onyx. Please let me know if I can help you in any way. Greta is waiting for you in her office. This way, please.”
Without waiting for his reply, she led him into the office behind her desk.
Onyx knocked on the door just before opening it. “Mr. Gray for you, Greta.”
Nodding to Onyx, Henry entered.
Behind a large ebony desk was a redheaded woman who seemed to be in her mid-thirties. She had a classical beauty with a sense of power he hadn’t seen before. The woman behind the desk stood up. “That will be all, Onyx. Please make sure we are not disturbed.”
Something about her poised command made him uncomfortable. That dumbstruck feeling inside him multiplied. He worried she could see right through him.
